This volume represents the efforts of Section 3, Regional Division 8141, Technocracy Inc. to assemble the most complete collection of the spoken words and significant written material of Technocracy's Founder and Director-in-Chief, Howard Scott, as recorded by transcript, disc, wire, and tape.
An addendum contains pertinent statements and observations as accounted for by a long-term member-at-large of Technocracy Inc .
An appendix contains a reduced-size copy of the first Technical Alliance pamphlet published in 1918.
The contents are arranged in the most approximate chronological order. The blanks appearing throughout the transcript are due to either voids in the recordings, inaudible remarks from the audience in question periods, or poor clarity of the audio, making it impossible for the transcriber to decipher the words at that particular point.

Subject: Howard Scott was the founder of the Technical Alliance and Technocracy Incorporated
ENEMY OF THE BOURGEOISIE
(his own preferred epithet)
Howard Scott was born in West Virginia on the 1st of April, 1890, the only child of a 19th century
American logging baron. He was a child prodigy who read (and understood) evolutionary biology
by the time he was four years old.
His father's untimely death cut short his university education, and he became a practicing engineer. (Excerpts above from William Sheridan s short biography of 'Howard Scott A True American Radical'.
The predominant intellectual influence on Scott was J. Willard Gibbs (1839 - 1903), the Yale
Professor of Mathematical Physics. Although he never had the opportunity to meet Gibbs, he did
get to know most of Gibbs' students. He read all of Gibbs work, and mastered the innovative
mathematical technique that Gibbs pioneered to represent the thermodynamics of phase changes
in physical chemistry, namely linear vector analysis.
The life's work that he set for himself was to develop "a science of geomechanics, for the
operation of large areas of the earth's surface both beneath and above". With the use of linear
vector analysis, he developed The Mathematical Theory of Energy Determinants as a tool to
describe the entire industrial ecology of the North American continent.
Scott's idea in that regard came to be known as 'energy accounting'.
The basis of modern biophysical economics comes from ideas put forth originally by Scott from about 1918 to the early 1930's. Scott along with M. King Hubbert a geo-scientist published the Technocracy Study Course, which is a plan to convert North America into a 'technate' where resources to population to energy consumption to ecological balance is measured and a non monetary system is used as a 'right of citizenship' according to the Technocracy Study Course in its last two lessons or chapters.
